Time for a little ranting and other stuff. Comics of the week it is, with a little news from BBC thrown in...

Let's look at the news before getting to the comics.

Say no to "normal". I saw this article at bbc.co.uk and had to read it because sharks and virgin birth, hell yes. And it was a good article until I came across the term "normal" sex. I am so sick and tired of the word "normal" that if you ask me it should be removed from the vocabulary. I'm pretty sure I can be a biologist and never use that word. Of course it's always more fun to say sex because hey, it's SEX, and not just any sex, it's SHARK SEX, woohoo! All they had to do was simply use the term sexual reproduction because that's what they were talking about. But no, someone came up with "normal" sex. You can't say sexual reproduction because it sounds lame, and the term asexual reproduction was already used in the paragraph before so it would be repeating, sorta. Completely understandable. And it's not like parthenogenesis is in any way "normal" because it only happens in nature pretty darn much. So it's ok... whatever.

On a non-ranty note, I also saw this hilarious report about a python exploding after trying to eat an alligator. Talk about gluttony.

Ok, on to the comics...

WW #9. Ugh. This issue was slightly more tolerable than the previous but it still sucked. The dialogue is just stupid. I hate Nemesis, especially that absolutely horrendous scene between him and Black Canary. And what's with the damn sports references Picoult insists on using? Circe knows Spice Girls?? Argh... And what's with the five-year-old answer Diana gave to Circe asking "Is he a good kisser?": "I did not kiss anyone!" All that was missing was her stomping her foot. Diana keeps saying that the person leading the amazons is an impostor. Well I'd like to say that I think this person who's going around as Wonder Woman is an impostor. Can we please get the real Wonder Woman back? Or is Alan Heinberg keeping her locked up somewhere? The art is starting to grow on me and I actually liked it now. Just wish someone more suitable would write the book. And I hate the fact that Nemesis was brought in as such a prominent character. Why does Wonder Woman need a man by her side? Does Batman have a woman by his side when he's doing his thing? Does Lois go with Superman to save the world? I don't think so. If you want Diana to have a man in her life it's fine by me but Wonder Woman does not need a partner. He needs to disappear. Or maybe the amazons will kill him. Now there's a thought...

Birds of Prey #106. When I first saw this cover I loved it. But I never took a closer look until now. And now I hate it. Some might think I'm nitpicking again but I just find it appalling that Big Barda has a Power Girl -type hole in her armor and her breasts are bulging out from it. I haven't read much stuff involving Big Barda outside the recent BoP issues but I don't remember seeing that hole before. Did she perhaps lose it in the midst of battle? Well, guess I should read the issue and find out...

- Ok, first look at Barda and she's wearing her armor. No hole in her breastplate though. It must break during battle then.
- lol, Deathpool...
- Back to Barda once more: Despite the cover artist's (Stephane Roux) obvious need to have bulging breasts in the cover, Barda does look more like herself in it otherwise. Nicola Scott still makes her look too skinny.
- Alright, here we go, Big Barda vs Knockout!
- Misfit can be annoying but I still like her. Dark Vengeance!
- The 2-page fight panel is awesome! Might have to make that into a wallpaper...
- Nonononononononono.... You do not kill Scandal, you do not kill Scandal, you do not kill Scandal...
- Huntress/Catman chemistry is great. But you do not kill Scandal.
- Oooh, Ice is awake and she's not happy... but you do not kill Scandal, dammit!!!

Ok, so I loved this issue, effin' loved it. Greatness at work again. But dammit, shooting Scandal is not allowed! Can't wait for the next issue, I'm pretty sure DC has the date for it wrong on their site but it would be way cool to have it out on June 6th already. Oh, and almost forgot, Barda did not lose any piece of her breastplate in this issue so I'm still wondering about the cover...

Next stop: Random thoughts about Countdown #50 and #49.

Countdown #50.
- Wow, Jimmy Olsen knows Dick Grayson is Nightwing. Did not know that. And if everyone knows Red Hood is Jason Todd why the hood? Ok, stupid question...
- Could it be more obvious that Mary's next stop is Gotham City?
- The ending with Joker is the best part. I hate that sick bastard but his psycho appearances can be fun.

All in all not a bad issue, a bit dull but it's still build-up so it's to be expected I guess.

Countdown #49.
- Ooh, I like that cover (and not because of the bondage fun)
- Ok, stretchy Jimmy is back, I remember seeing him somewhere before...
- So I guess I should be reading Justice League of America to understand what this Karate Kid business is about. I just don't feel like it.
- What a surprise, Mary's in Gotham City!
- Black Adam carnage! Haven't seen that in a while...

Ok, so maybe I wasn't in the mood for these today, especially after that great BoP issue. This wasn't bad either but also dull like the previous one. I'm starting to think I should leave the reading for times when I'm more interested.

That's it. End of story.

ETA: Forgot to do the happy dance about the info on the latest DC Nation: "Last and certainly far from least, our very own Greg Rucka tells the story of the CRIME BIBLE and how it will have a lasting impact on the DC Universe. This is one Question in search of an answer; let's just hope that she can survive it."
Rucka is writing The Question! And there might be Batwoman too! Happy, happy, happy!
