Better late than never... my travel report!
It’s been so long since my trip now it’s probably time to post my travel report. Ok, I’ve had some trouble writing it because I’ve had a lot on my mind since coming back but can’t wait any longer so here goes...
I won’t recap the whole week, I’ll just focus on the highlights.
First of all, flying (in an airplane) was fun. Granted there was that tiny part of me which feared that we’d crash but it didn’t stop me from having my nose pressed to the window and looking down in awe. Especially when the plane tipped and I was staring almost straight into the water below was just amazing.
I was picked up from the Hamburg airport by a couple of crazy Germans who then drove (or flew) me to Denmark and Ikast. The drive was interesting to say the least. For one I’ve never been in a car that goes 220 km/h before. But for some reason I was too stupid to be scared and actually enjoyed it. Go figure. Sometime during the drive I did think if I had forgotten to pack some important part of my brain with.
Anyway, we arrived at Ikast and went straight to the Ikast Brande Arena though it was still hours until the game would start.

We didn’t stay there long though and left to find something to eat. The meal was far from delicious but it was enough to fill the stomach. Then of course we went back to the arena and just went in to sit and wait.

When I saw Katja Nyberg walking by I lost it and had a very embarrassing squee-moment. Thankfully I don’t think anyone apart from my companions witnessed it. I was told to calm down and managed to do that, almost anyway. Seriously, you can’t really blame a girl for going a bit nuts, especially after all that had happened that day already.
My host for the week arrived just in time for the warm-up and then I just sat there and watched. I have to admit I can’t remember much from the game anymore except that it was great and Katja was awesome. Especially that goal from the other side of the court... guh. I did take pictures, a lot of pictures actually but like I mentioned before my camera does not take good pics indoors without flash. So the quality is really poor. Here are some shots anyway that were slightly successful.

The next two go nicely together, especially since I saw Isa (in the lower pic) slap Ragnhild (in the upper pic) on the butt before these were taken ;-)

Then of course after the game came the hardest part, getting pictures taken with them. I had some stuff too that I wanted signed but the pictures were my priority. But like I had expected I completely panicked at the thought of going close to them and actually saying something. I can only thank my friends for making any of it happen because they kept pushing me and helped me go to them. I would’ve never been able to do it alone (as was proven last weekend, but that’s another story). When we finally got to getting my picture taken with Katja (after she had showered, changed and given an interview while I was trying to survive from her looking stunning) I had to go and open my mouth. I told Katja in English that I’m from Finland. And damn, she has to be so nice that she started talking to me in Finnish! What followed was a very awkward conversation between two shy people. But she talked Finnish with me though she always seems to start it with saying she’s forgotten most of the language. Ok, she has a clear accent but it’s really not that bad. I should’ve said so... But anyway, I can hardly even remember what we talked about, I was so freaking nervous the whole time. And after she left and it was time to go I didn’t know what to do, I just followed the others. The whole experience fried my brain.
So all in all, that Saturday was without a doubt one of the most amazing days of my life. I spent the next two days recovering from it. Then on Tuesday ‘surprisingly’ I got a cold and then spent that day trying to make it go away because the hell I was going to let it ruin my Wednesday and the next trip to a handball game. Luckily I succeeded at least partly and then on Wednesday it was time to go to Esbjerg for another game. Woohoo! (sorry, had a moment of excitement just from the thought) Well, we found our way to the arena in Esbjerg and drove past it only once. Then when we found a parking lot we were greeted by a nice surprice. Ikast’s bus was there. Ok, so it was empty but the funny part was that the motor was running and the door was open. I was soooo tempted to go inside just to take a peek but then naturally didn’t and just took a pic.

Then we went inside to watch the warm-up and I filmed it with my little camera. On Saturday I was bummed that Katja didn’t play football at the beginning but luckily they did that time. Always fun watching that, especially since we were sitting really close to them. For the game we had to give up those seats though and eventually ended up sitting in a relatively bad place because the arena was pretty much full. I didn’t take many pictures there anymore because I knew the quality would suck anyway but I did film a bit and caught some nice moments between Katja and Gro. The game was great once again and after a good fight Ikast won by one goal. It was awesome.
After the game we stuck around and some of the Ikast players came back to the court to stretch. Naturally they were the center of everyone's attention.

Later when they were leaving and we were still sitting there Gro was the last one to come out of the dressing room. She asked us if we were by car and get this, she told us to drive safely! She’s so cool. It was another fantastic day...
My host and I didn’t really end up doing much the rest of the week. We did go to Kiel on Saturday and went to see fishies and things in an aquarium. Funny creatures some of them. And weird too.

But the games really were the highlight and I don’t regret one bit going there just for those two days. I hope I can make a trip there again soon, I’ve never before in my life wanted to travel but now I do so why not go. Especially since I have amazing friends there and therefore don’t have to go alone. You got it, Denmark, I’ll be coming there again!
